Hey community, Coach Laura here!
I'm a stay at home mom (SAHM) of BOYS. Not only do I have boys, I have a garden and a flock of chickens that I tend to. How do I find time to do anything for me? It's not a walk in the park, but it is manageable and comes with great reward. I know I'm not the only one out there that lives this lifestyle, so I wanted to speak to how I manage and hopefully offer some insight and encouragement to you!
Developing a schedule and established routine is KEY. We all have daily tasks and weekly tasks. For example, my oldest son knows that he is to wake up, and go check on the chickens to freshen their water. My youngest knows he is to get his toothbrush from me to brush his teeth. Without a routine, I would feel like one of my hens, without a head (chicken with a head cut off haha, get it? Haha.ok).
We know there are certain tasks that need to be accomplished so we can enjoy our little life. A single income does not allow much wiggle room, financially, so we make our fun! We take walks in our woods, build birdhouses out of old lumber, and make lots of food! It works for us, and also allows all of us to feel as though we are contributing to the family.
Where does Healthi come into play in all of this? Well, if it wasn't for routine and habits, I would not be able to maintain my healthiest possible. Healthi allows me stay on track with what I am consuming and the amount of activity my body needs! I know that what I eat, I will track, so I don't want to see myself tracking trash food. I feel accomplished and proud when I can track something wholesome and healthy. I can plan my day, or my week with Healthi recipe and meal-planning features. I absolutely love this about the app.
Do I get overwhelmed? Yes! Are there days that I just want to run out the door and go back to work? All the time! Are there days that I want to stuff my face full of an entire Reese's Ice Cream Cake? OH YES! But I just don't do that anymore. I turn to my Healthi community and look to you guys and my fellow coaches for inspiration and motivation. I know I am not the only SAHM out there, and it is a great feeling to be able to connect with a community of like-minded people and do life with y'all!
Healthi Note:
With school finally out for summer, families are getting into a whole new swing of things. And as many of us look for ways to keep our kids occupied and having fun- we also face the challenges of staying on track in both our activity and eating habits. I mean, it's kind of hard to resist indulging in all of the kids' treats with them (snow cones in the summer... how can we turn that down!?). But with that being said, we should all find a personal balance between enjoying the fun of summer and feeling good about our health choices!
Here are our summer time tips for staying at home and staying on track!
- Have healthy but yummy summer treats stocked in the fridge
- frozen grapes, homemade fruit popsicles, healthy sweets to cook together like banana bread
- Picking one outing treat a week (food/snacks/treat)
- Perhaps the snow cone bit?
- Find a fun way to get active with the kids!
- Pick a new dish and get the kids involved in helping you make it.
Happy tracking!
