Coach Stefanie here!
Let's face it, adding exercise to your already busy schedule can be hard. But one thing we often don't realize is that the little things add up.
I don't like exercising but I know being active is important for healthy weight loss. So I do a few simple things to get more activity in my life. If you do them alone, once in a while they don't make much difference, but combined and consistently doing them will add up!
1.) Park further away
Ever notice how people fight for a parking spot right next to the door? But just a couple of steps away there are tons of spaces? Take one of them. Every time I go to the supermarket or the store, I make it a point to park further away to get a few extra steps in.
2.) Take the stairs
I get it, stairs are tough. And my office is on the 16th floor...no way can I get up that many steps. But my building also has a parking garage entry. Only one of the 4 elevators goes all the way to the garage, the rest stop at the lobby. While the others stand there waiting for the one elevator, I take the stairs up to the lobby and hop on one of 4 choices. I do this twice a day. I also take the stairs on other occasions when I can.
3.) Leave your office for short walks
I have a typical office job where I sit at my desk all day. So I make it a point to get up and walk around. I have a small printer in my office and we have big printers down the hall. Guess where I'm printing to? Right! I print to the big printer so I have a reason to take a little stroll down the office.
I have also found it helpful to have a Fitbit or smart watch that will alert me if I haven't made my hourly step goal. That way I can get up and walk around instead of sitting down for hours.
